How to prepare and enjoy a healthy snack
Here’s What to Do
- Gather smoothie ingredients and a blender or food processor. Try to include one ingredient from each category:
- Something frozen (frozen fruit, or ice cubes)
- Something liquid (any type of milk, coconut water, juice)
- Something fresh (any fresh fruit)
- Something fun (nut butter, cocoa powder, coconut flakes, oats, yogurt, cinnamon)
- Help your child add each ingredient to the blender. Talk about each ingredient as you add it.
- Blend. Adjust the taste and consistency if needed.
- Pour your smoothie into cups and enjoy!

- Wash your hands before you begin.
ENGAGE
- “We need a frozen fruit. Should we use strawberry or mango?”
- “We need milk in this recipe so that it’s liquid-y enough to drink. Also, milk has lots of protein which helps you feel full and helps your bones grow strong.”
ENCOURAGE
- “It sounds like the smoothie isn’t tasting good to you yet. Let’s try adding some strawberry and taste it again.”
- “It’s okay that you spilled the milk. Sometimes that’s what happens when you cook!”
REFLECT
- “Should we make this smoothie again the next time we need a healthy snack?”
