How to listen to and understand directions given out loud.
Here’s What to Do
- Tell your child you’re going to play a following game.
- Give your child a direction. Ask them to repeat the words out loud, and then follow the directions with their bodies.
- Switch roles- have your child give you directions which you repeat and then follow.

PAUSE
- Smile and wave to your child. Ask them to wave back to show they’re ready.
ENGAGE
- “First you’ll repeat my direction, and then you’ll follow the direction. Ready? Stand up! Say, ‘stand up!’. Now go ahead and do it.”
- Other example directions:
- “Stomp your feet!”
- “Touch your toes!”
- “Put your hands on your head!”
- “Cover your eyes!”
ENCOURAGE
