Your Child Will Learn
Use paper mache sculpture to create a bowl
Here’s What to Do
- Mix 1 part water, 1 part flour, and 2 tablespoons of liquid white glue in a bowl until the consistency is similar to pancake batter
- Blow up a balloon and help your child cover half of it with pre-cut strips of paper that have been dipped into the mache mix; once the balloon is covered in strips, let it dry overnight
- The next day, pop and extract the balloon so that you have one bowl
- Let your child decorate the bowls with paint
Put PEER Into Action
PAUSE
- Show your child a decorative bowl and tell them that they will make their own with paper mache
ENGAGE
- Let your child help with mixing the paper mache recipe
- Ask your child, “what kind of colors, lines, shapes, and patterns can you paint on your bowl”?
ENCOURAGE
- Hold the balloon while your child applies the mache strips to it
- Compliment and praise your child’s painting choices for decorating the bowl
REFLECT
- Ask your child, “what can we put inside this bowl”?
