Your Child Will Learn

Fine motor skills, how to use stickers, and creativity

Here’s What to Do

  1. Gather things that are sticky on one side, like sticky notes, tape, or stickers.
  2. Help me peel a sticker or tear a piece of tape. Show me how to place the sticky side against the surface of another piece of paper.
  3. Let me experiment with sticking the stickers, tape, or sticky notes myself.

Put PEER Into Action

PAUSE

  • Sit with me at a workspace free of distraction. Take a deep breath before we begin.

ENGAGE

  • “Can you use your fingernail to pick up the sticker?”
  • “Can you put the sticky side down so the sticker stays on the paper?”

ENCOURAGE

  • Stickers require a lot of fine motor control and may be tricky at first. Let me make mistakes, that’s how I learn!
  • If you are using a sheet of stickers, peel away the part of the sticker sheet that’s outside of the actual stickers. This makes it easier for me to peel the stickers myself.

REFLECT

  • Did it seem like I felt proud that I was able to make art myself?

Not Quite Ready

Hand the sticker to me facing the right way and see if I can place it myself.

Ready for More

Encourage me to peel the stickers myself. Help me use tape to attach pieces of paper to larger pieces of paper.
