People remember what to do throughout the day by using a schedule
Here’s What to Do
- Create a family schedule on large paper with the days of the week and times so your children understand when things are supposed to happen
- OPTIONAL: Use craft materials such as stickers, velcro labels, and colored paper to personalize the schedule
- Have each family member select a different color, symbol, or craft item to signify individual activities
- Let your children to decorate the schedule by drawing or painting pictures around it
Put PEER Into Action
PAUSE
- Gather the materials you need for this activity together. Sit down, breath, smile…now you are ready to begin!
ENGAGE
- Go through each day of the schedule, asking your children to list the typical family activities
- Ask your children what words and pictures should be used to represent activities on the schedule
ENCOURAGE
- Ask your children to explain what comes first, next, and last on a typical day
- Compliment and praise your children for their participation
REFLECT
- Ask your children, “is the schedule complete or did we forget something”?

Work on the schedule one day at a time instead of all at once

Reference the schedule every morning, asking your children to review individual and group activities for the day
