Your Child Will Learn
Communities come together to celebrate many things, like culture and customs
Here’s What to Do
- Plan to attend a local festival in your community that is family-friendly and appropriate for children
- Seek festivals with hands-on activities that will expose your child to different foods, art, crafts, music, performances, community vendors, and civic organizations
- Take pictures while attending the festival and/or ask your child to draw a picture to represent their experience at the festival
Put PEER Into Action
PAUSE
- Choose a time when your child is rested and ready to attend a public event
ENGAGE
- As you enjoy the festival together, talk about what your child is seeing, doing and learning
- Have your child collect festival artifacts like maps, handouts, and giveaways
ENCOURAGE
- Direct your child to events and activities that are connected to their personal interests
- Be friendly and socialize with other families and children at the event
REFLECT
- Ask your child to explain their favorite experience at the festival
Not Quite Ready
Keep your child close and make them feel secure while attending the festival, as public community events can be challenging for small children

Check out books from the library related to special events or activities that you experienced at the festival
