Your Child Will Learn
Mix colors to create art in fun and playful ways
Here’s What to Do
- Mix 3-4 watercolor paints with extra water and small drops of soap; keep each color mixture in a separate container
- Dip a plastic drinking straw into the soapy paint mixtures, then blow through the straw onto paper to form lines and bubbles
- Continue doing this with all the different colors
- Laugh and have fun when your child creates bubbles!
Put PEER Into Action
PAUSE
- Smile and get on eye-level with your child in a distraction-free workspace
ENGAGE
- Let your child help you set up and prepare the paint mixtures
- Ask your child, “what lines, shapes, and pictures can we make with these paint bubbles”?
ENCOURAGE
- Ask your child to try blowing fast and slow to notice the different effects on the paint
- Compliment and praise your child’s art
REFLECT
- Ask your child, “what if we added more water or soap to the paint, would that change your picture”?
