Your Child Will Learn

A way to make bath time more fun

Here’s What to Do

  1. Tell your child that tonight’s bath time is going to be a story time. Ask what character they’d like the story to be about.
  2. Throughout the bath, ask your child to pretend to be that character.
  3. Prompt your child for story details. The details can match what you’re doing in the bath if you’d like.
  4. During the next bath time, continue pretending to be that same character, or make up a brand new story!

Put PEER Into Action

PAUSE

  • “We’re going to make tonight a story bath. Are you ready to play pretend in the bath?”

ENGAGE

  • “Who should our story be about tonight?”
  • “Once upon a time there was a mermaid named Mia Mermaid. She really needed a bath. How do you think Mia Mermaid got so dirty?”

ENCOURAGE

  • “Can you pretend to be Mia Mermaid? How do you think she would take a bath?”
  • “What happens next in the story? Maybe Mia Mermaid washes her tail with a seaweed washcloth or a sea sponge loofah?”

REFLECT

  • “What did you think of our bath story tonight? Should we try it again tomorrow?”

Not Quite Ready

Tell the whole story for your child (or read from a book).

Ready for More

Prompt your child less to see if they can tell the story more independently.
