Your Child Will Learn

A way to make bath time more fun

Here’s What to Do

  1. Choose a book to be your “bath time book.” Bring it into the bathroom during bath time.
  2. Read a page or two, and then do one part of the bath.
  3. Repeat until the story is done and the bath is complete.
  4. If reading a book during bath time helps your child be more enthusiastic about bath time, incorporate it into your daily routine.

Put PEER Into Action

PAUSE

  • “Can you pick a book we’ll read as a special bath time treat today?”

ENGAGE

  • “Okay, I’m going to read the first page, then I’ll get your hair wet.”
  • “How do you think (book character) would wash her face? Can you show me how she would do it?”

ENCOURAGE

  • “To find out what happens next in the story, we need to do shampoo first.”
  • “You’re being so helpful during this bath time!”

REFLECT

  • “Did you like having a book as part of your bath routine?”

Not Quite Ready

If you have a waterproof book (or toys), put them in the tub with your child.
